Newsflash: Tiger Woods is Rich -- Really Freakin’ Rich

It’s kind of obvious that Tiger Woods is rich. Ya’ know, he wins all the time, he’s a spokesman for everything, he’s got a supermodel for a wife (which, I hear, adds a lot of value to a person) -- but now he’s officially the richest athlete ever.

↵Ever.

Forbes says Tiger Woods has become the first athlete to surpass $1 billion in career earnings.

↵

The magazine estimates that golf’s top-ranked player crested the plateau when he earned $10 million for winning the FedEx Cup on Sunday.

↵↵↵

Forbes reported on its Web site on Tuesday that Woods entered 2009 having earned $895 million since he joined the PGA Tour in 1996. Prize money, appearance fees, endorsement fees, bonuses and his golf course design business were calculated to have pushed him over $1 billion.

↵

↵Michael Jordan ($800 million) and former Formula One driver Michael Schumacher ($700) are Woods’ closest competition in the world of MakingSoMuchMoneyIt’sRidiculous. But if Woods already has hit the measly $1 billion mark, what’s the limit on this guy?

↵In comparison, Arnold Palmer turned professional in 1954 and arguably played very competitively until the mid 1970s. Woods went pro in 1996. So if Tiger does, roughly, 20 years just like Mr. Iced Tea, he has at least another 7 years -- easy -- to go.

↵Mrs. Tiger Woods must be so proud of her man. As proud as we are of him -- for reasons not associated with golf.
