Michael Weiner Elected as New Head of MLB Players’ Union in Landslide Vote

The players elected Michael Weiner as the new executive director of the MLB players’ union in a overwhelming 1,055 to 4 vote on Friday. Weiner replaces Donald Fehr, who announced in June that he will step down after being the head of the union since 1983.

Weiner will be a key figure in the new collective bargaining negotiations between the union and the owners, which are set to begin next year. The current agreement expires in 2011.

No word on whether or not this promotion will afford Weiner the means to purchase a comb and tweezers.
