Chuck Klosterman is a very good writer, and he’s never better than when he’s discussing something he truly loves. (When he’s discussing something he doesn’t care for — say, the Internet — he’s far less likable.) Today, ESPN is running a typically long and rambling Klosterman essay, excerpted from his upcoming book, on why football is, despite all its old-fashioned macho rhetoric and war analogy, is actually the most progressive of all the professional sports.
