Mariano Rivera and the Case of the Spitball
↵
↵It was only a fleeting moment in Monday night’s game, and one that the FOX TV crew didn’t even acknowledge, but there was Mariano Rivera, looking around and then spitting in the direction of the baseball he was about to throw. Did the spit make contact with the ball? I’ve watched the video ten times, and even checked out these frame-by-frame screen grabs and I still can’t tell.
↵
↵Many people seem to think that guilty glance -- the moment where Rivera
to be checking if anyone is watching him -- is the smoking gun. The conspiracy theories about FOX cutting away quickly are silly though. TV production like that moves so quickly that there’s no way a mass coverup is really happening as many Angels fans/Yankees haters would like to believe.
↵
↵The story is definitely out there and circulating, so here’s hoping someone at the ball park will ask about the alleged spitball before or after today’s game.
↵↵(H/T to Halos Heaven) ↵
↵↵UPDATE: MLB is looking into the spitting incident. ↵
↵↵UPDATE 2: From the same link above: ↵
↵↵⇥The Commissioners Office reviewed available video and still photography↵⇥from Mariano Rivera spitting toward a baseball in ALCS Game 3 and↵⇥“found no evidence that Rivera spit on the ball,” a spokesman for the↵⇥commissioner told the Post.↵↵
