Anton Tabuena at BloodyElbow shares a video from RawVegas.TV in which UFC President Dana White provided the following quote:
Dana White Claims Negotiations With Dan Henderson Are Done
We couldn’t come to terms with Dan Henderson… Business, nothing personal with Dan, I have a great relationship with him… but he was looking for an obscene amount of money. You never know what’s gonna happen, we’ll see what happens, but as of now, yeah, negotiations are done.
That does not sound promising. In reality one has to place at least partial blame on Anderson Silva. Silva’s being unwilling to fight a rematch with Henderson or Nate Marquardt led to the UFC scrambling to fit Vitor Belfort into the title picture. Now Dan wasn’t able to get the fight he wanted and as such it started to sour negotiations and Dan clearly wanted extra money in his deal to make up for what he felt was him being slighted. Now it appears the deal has fallen through all together.
The immediate reaction to the news as an MMA fan is to say “Oh, at least now we can see him go to Strikeforce and fight Gegard Mousasi.” But hold on a second, now Mousasi has said it will take more money to get him in the cage with Dan. From Fighters Only Magazine:
I personally wouldn’t like to fight him, because if I fight a high-calibre fighter like Dan Henderson or a bum I would get paid the same, so there isn’t any motivation to fight a better fighter – although for the right money I would fight even Godzilla.
