Who Wants To Be Akron’s QB?

Did you play quarterback in high school? Have you ever thrown a football before? Maybe you know what a football looks like? OK then, here’s your helmet!

↵

That is essentially the recruiting process the Akron football team has been reduced to this season. Akron, perhaps best known for its nickname ("Zips," short for Zippers) or its mascot (a kangaroo), is having a rough go of it in 2009. They currently have 13 scholarship players out for the season because of injury, and no position is more decimated than quarterback.

↵

Starer Chris Jacquemain was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. Sophmore Matt Rodgers took his place, and promptly tore his ACL. The current starting QB is freshman Patrick Nicely. He has two backups: one is another freshman; the other is a Student Coach. So Akron did what anyone would do when in need of help. They put an ad in the student newspaper, looking (hoping?) for a quarterback.
