The Vikings Hoping Foolish Kneejerk Decisions Continue Paying Off

↵The Minnesota Vikings rolled the dice by signing a then 39-year-old quarterback with recent shoulder problems who didn’t even bother going to training camp this year. So far, so good though as the Vikes have rolled to a 6-0 record and have a legitimate shot at representing the NFC in the Super Bowl. That is, so long as Favre’s arm doesn’t break down like it did late last year.↵↵And, just like that, a coach who was on the hot seat due to years of mediocrity has his duff saved. Remember that this was to be a make-or-break season for Brad Childress. Hailed as an offensive genius when he brought in from Philadelphia, many have blamed Childress (rightfully) for vanilla and predictable playcalling and generally wasting what has been one of the most talent-heavy rosters in the league the last few years.↵
↵↵But now there are reports that an extension is in the works for Chilly, which is odd given that his team hasn’t accomplished anything other than an impressive start after six games. What happens if and when the Favre experiment doesn’t bear out for the entirety of the season and the Vikings are back to square one with their offense, with no long-term answer in sight after this season?↵
↵↵The Vikings clearly went all-in to compete for a title this season, but there’s no reason to commit themselves to the formula until it manages it get them past the first round of the playoffs.↵
