Penguins Lose Sergei Gonchar For 4-6 With Broken Wrist

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma announced today at a press conference that All-Star defenseman Sergei Gonchar will be out 4-6 weeks with a broken wrist.

The loss of Gonchar is a huge blow for the fast-starting Penguins (8-1), whose thin defensive corps is seen as one of the few obstacles to the Penguins repeating as Stanley Cup Champions. Last season, without Gonchar in the lineup, Pittsburgh’s offensive production dipped noticeably, and their powerplay floundered. Look for a similar decline this season as Gonchar recovers from his latest injury.
