Bucks Have Future Option For Joe Alexander

With the news that Joe Alexander may have a partially torn hamstring — and the fact Alexander hasn’t quite lived up to the hype — the Bucks have to weigh whether or not to exercise his option for next season:

Alexander averaged just 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 59 games last year as a rookie, and after being the eighth overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft, he has already been termed a “bust” by many fans and NBA observers.

Now, comes the hard part. Bucks General Manager John Hammond has an Oct. 31 deadline to decide if he will pick up the option on Alexander’s contract for next season at a cost of more than $2 million.

The Bucks weren’t the only team that had Alexander rated very highly before the 2008 draft, so you can bet that there would be some interest in him, either in a trade, or as a free agent pickup, if the Bucks choose not to pick up his option.
