Start ’Em
Start/Sit: A Ryan/Romo Shoot-Out?
Quarterbacks
Ben Roethlisberger: No Antoine Winfield, no problem. Big Ben is an every week starter at this point, but he should really be able to rack up the yardage since Pittsburgh will have trouble running against a stout Minnesota defense.
Carson Palmer: I’m looking for a high scoring game in Chicago. the weather looks like it should be okay and the Bears have had trouble covering number one receivers. Ochocinco and Palmer should be able to do some damage.
Matt Ryan and Tony Romo: This should be a shootout with both QB’s putting up good numbers. Both pass defenses have been mediocre and both QB’s have the skill and the weapons to do some damage.
Running Backs
Jonathan Stewart: The Bills are the worst rush D in the league and the Panthers got their running swagger back last week. With Delhomme not wanting to throw 10-15 interceptions this game I think they’ll focus on the run. The Daily Show should be able to get his work in.
Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch: Yes, they are hurting each others value, but if you own either, this is the time to start them. With Fitzpatrick probably starting at quarterback they will have to rely on the run and even if Fitz wasn’t playing their game plan should be to run, run, run against the poor Panthers’ run D.
Leon Washington: I thought last week was going to be his breakout week, well, he did have a big week, but Thomas Jones out played him. Leon will have success again this week and look for the gap between him and Jones to tighten.
Wide Receivers
Austin Collie: Until Anthony Gonzalez gets back Collie is a decent flex start. Against the Rams’ poor defense he is a great flex play.
Mike Wallace: Roethlisberger is going to have a lot of yards to pass out and Wallace should see some of those including a TD.
Earl Bennett: The Bengals are tough on number one receivers, but not so tough on the underlings. Bennett is a good bet to grab five or more catches. He probably won’t see the endzone, but will help you out in ppr leagues.
Sit Down!
Quarterbacks
Brett Favre: He has been riding a time warp, but the Steelers will put an end to that on Sunday. Favre has been doing well indoors, but he’ll face the elements at Heinz field. With Troy Polamula stalking the secondaty Brett should see a couple of his passes picked off.
Donovan McNabb: There are some really good matchups for QB’s this week and Washington’s pass defense is for real. McNabb can have good games against any team in the league so don’t sit him for Jake Delhomme, but if you have better options, take them.
Mark Sanchez: Traveling across the country to face a decent pass defense, possibly without Cotchery, all after throwing 5 picks the week before? No matter how bad your bye situation I would stay far away.
Running Backs
Matt Forte: He’s just not getting his numbers. Is that because of the o-line or the play calling; it doesn’t really matter. The Bengals are tough against the run and weak against the pass. I see Cutler throwing the ball a lot. Just because you drafted him early doesn’t mean he is a must start. At best he is a flex this week. If you have better options give them a shot.
Lesean McCoy: Until Westbrook gets hurt McCoy just isn’t going to see enough looks to be a good start.
Clinton Portis: He is hurting as usual, but you won’t really know his status until it’s too late to change your lineup. I’d sit him unless you have little choice.
Wide Receivers
Jeremy Maclin: After his breakout game he had a tough matchup and now he gets another one. You need to keep him on the bench this week against a good Redskins’ pass defense.
Santana Moss: I would never start Moss against a good pass defense. The guy is strictly a matchup play now.
Steve Smith (CAR): He’ll get his looks, but the Bills are just too good and the Panthers have nobody else to throw to. Smith will have trouble getting any daylight.
