Virginia’s done its duty today defending the “Paul Johnson offense” well, but the sick thing about the triple-option is how inevitable one long, dream-strangling drive really can be, especially when Paul Johnson is pulling the strings.
Defending Georgia Tech Is Not Fun
↵Georgia Tech just went on an 18 play 10:47, 82 yard siege/drive down the field for a TD, destroying a third of a quarter, making the lead 20-6, and breaking the back of UVA’s defense on multiple third down conversions. Irritating enough by itself, but doing it on a tipped ball to Demaryius Thomas on 3rd and long (he somehow caught it and dragged tacklers forward for a first) and a draw on third and long that gained 20 (a play no one’s seen from Tech all year long) is worse.
↵They may not be the best offense in college football right now, but they have to be the most aggravating, especially when you think you have Nesbitt on the sneak stuffed for TD, and then you look to see Anthony Allen with the pitch strolling in for a TD on—yup—third down and goal.
