The New York Jets' Leon Washington was knocked out of Sunday's game in Oakland with an injury that's being called "scary," "nasty," "ugly," and all sorts of other things. To put it in perspective, Pro Football Talk is reminded of Joe Theismann's career-ending hit in the Super Bowl.
Jets Running Back Leon Washington Suffers Gruesome Leg Injury
Washington was injured on his first carry when a Raiders player rolled on his ankle in a pile-up. TV replays showed Washington's lower legs bending in a way that lower legs aren't supposed to bend. The injury was reminiscent of the broken leg that ended Joe Theismann's career, and it would be shocking if Washington isn't out for the season, if not longer.
This is especially bad for Washington, as Adam Schefter ruefully observes:
Leon Washington goes down with what looked like an ugly knee injury -- and the first thing I thought was, Wish he had gotten a new contract.
