Alex Smith Is Once Again The Starting QB For The 49ers

Alex Smith has supplanted Shaun Hill as the starting QB for San Francisco, according to Matt Maiocco. Head Coach Mike Singletary made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Smith took over for Hill during Sunday's game against the Texans, and threw three second-half touchdown passes -- all to TE Vernon Davis -- and ended the day 15-for-22 for 206 yards. Smith's play was nearly enough to lead the 49ers back from a huge 21-0 halftime deficit. S.F. eventually fell short, losing 24-21.

49ers fans will likely be thrilled about this decision. Over at Niners Nation, 89% of the fans voted for Smith to remain the starter over Hill.
