WR/TE PIckups

ESPN’s K.C. Joyner is back with his weekly breakdown of waiver wire pass-catching options. Among some of the less obvious names he likes for this week are an old favorite and a backup tight end:

Torry Holt, Jacksonville, available in 40.1 percent of ESPN leagues
Holt plays for the Jaguars and is coming off a bye this week, so he is all but certain to fall under most fantasy owners’ radars. There are two reasons he should be on yours: His 12 receptions for 196 yards the past two weeks are a clear indicator he is getting in sync with David Garrard. Matchups against the Titans, Chiefs, Niners, Texans and Dolphins also provide upside value. He’s not the type of wideout to give you touchdowns every week, but his volume of receptions and consistent yardage totals make him a terrific point-per-reception league pick and a solid performance league pick.

Fred Davis, Washington, available in 99.7 percent of ESPN leagues
When Chris Cooley broke his ankle in the Monday night game against the Eagles, it gave Davis a chance to showcase his receiving skills. Eight receptions, 78 yards and a touchdown illustrates how well Davis took advantage of his opportunity. All Cooley owners should take heed and place a claim on Davis ASAP.

Cooley may only be out for a month, but Davis should at least be a solid option in the interim, if not for the rest of the season. Holt, meanwhile, is the type of under the radar veteran who lacks any fantasy sexiness because his upside is limited, yet can be a useful bye week filler for owners desperate for WR help.
