Last night, Jimmy Rollins did something most players aren’t brave enough to do. He predicted a Phillies World Series win in five games:
Jimmy Rollins Predicts Phillies In Five
↵↵“Of course we’re gonna win,” Rollins told Leno. “The positive about confidence is it radiates throughout the clubhouse,” he explained. “Being one of the leaders, if you go out there with a negative mindset, people pick up on that. I’ve always been a confident person, a happy person.”
↵↵Bless Rollins for his confidence, but it’s a wonder athletes don’t do this more often. If the prediction comes true, you’re a legend. If it fails, people forget about it within, what, a week or so? Sports fans’ attention spans are so short at this point it almost doesn’t matter what you say from on week to the next. Predict away! I predict Alex Rodriguez will hit 30 home runs in the World Series, and then will fly away on a jet pack to the moon. See if you guys remember!
