Everyone thinks of New Jersey suburbs as attached by bridge and tunnel to New York; it’s easy to forget there are many New Jersey suburbanites that consider Philly their home. (A college friend was this way; I never associated him with Philly, because he always introduced himself as from Jersey. Confusing!) Which is why you might not have seen this coming: The Phils-Yanks series is pretty much dividing baseball loyalties of the state of New Jersey in half. Fortunately, New Jersey residents are known for their collectively soft-spoken approach to sports fandom. I’m sure the whole thing will blow right over.
