A few points to make here regarding A.J. Green’s touchdown catch to give Georgia the (short-lived) lead in today’s Georgia-LSU game. First there’s the obvious: WHOA.

Ridiculous NCAA Rules, and Other Unsportsmanlike Fare

Then, later in that clip, you’ll see him get mobbed by teammates as they celebrate the go-ahead touchdown. Not pictured: the official, throwing a flag for “unsportsmanlike conduct,” as the officials cited Green for excessive celebration. The penalty meant Georgia would have to kickoff from their 5-yardline on the ensuing possession, all but guaranteeing LSU would find themselves in range for a game-winning field goal.
↵Please: watch the celebration and tell me that’s worth a game-changing penalty. And then watch 98% of the other “excessive celebration” calls and make the same judgment. It’s Saturday night and I’m probably talking to myself here, but man, what an inane rule, surpassed only by the idiocy of the officials charged with enforcing it.
↵Finally, speaking of inane rules put forth by monolithic corporate bodies, Dan Shanoff weighed in after Green’s insane catch:
↵
↵Yes, NFL and its apologists: Please keep insisting that talents like AJ Green are not old enough (“ready enough”) for the league. Fools.

FIGHT THE POWER! You with me, guys? Let’s smack these fools upside the head with some Saturday night rhetoric! Ya know?! … Guys?
