The Detroit Free Press is reporting that both QB Matt Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson were practicing on Thursday, a good sign that they’ll play on Sunday.
Lions Ready To Roar: Stafford, Johnson Both Practice
Johnson and Stafford are both recovering from right knee injuries. Johnson has missed one game, Stafford two.
If Johnson and Stafford play Sunday, the Lions will have a deep threat against a team that has been susceptible to the deep ball. The Rams have allowed 24 passes of 20 yards or more, tied for fourth-worst in the NFL.
While both of them will likely be labeled with the dreaded “game time decision”, either one would be a good choice this week if they play. The Rams are simply terrible and with the Patriots, Steelers and Bengals on bye you probably have at least one hole in your starting lineups. You could do worse than starting Matt Stafford vs the Rams.
The return of Stafford and Johnson is also very good news for RB Kevin Smith who hasn’t had a rushing touchdown since Stafford was injured.
