Iowa Delivers Excitement; Indiana Counters With Fourth Quarter of Excrement

Iowa was doing its best to come up with some intrigue to save Saturday’s early games. It started slow, falling behind after some uninspired offense in the first half. Ricky Stanzi threw four picks in the third quarter, seemingly squandering any momentum a Tyler Sash pick-six gave the Hawkeyes. And the Big Ten officials spun “wacky” on their wheel of incompetence, coming up with two highly questionable calls on Indiana touchdowns to keep the game close, at 24-14, entering the fourth quarter.↵↵Then, uh, the fourth quarter happened.↵

↵↵A fusillade of 28 points in the final stanza followed. Stanzi’s first two passes of the quarter both went for touchdowns, and in 25 seconds of possession for Iowa, the Hawkeyes claimed a lead they would only extend. Indiana’s Ben Chappell threw two interceptions in the quarter, and the Hoosiers were outgained 275-23. It was, charitably, really, really, really bad.↵

↵↵How bad was it? Iowa entered the quarter down 10, then covered the 17.5-point spread with a 42-24 win. Such is the life of the fourth-ranked Heart Attack Hawkeyes, huh?↵
