Despite a promising start for the Detroit Lions and Matthew Stafford in today's game with the Chicago Bears, things devolved in the second half, and with the Bears leading 41-24 in the fourth quarter, they got even worse. As ESPN's Adam Schefter observed at the time:
Lions QB Stafford Leaves Game With Knee Injury
That was one ugly hit when Matthew Stafford went down clutching his knee. Trainers checking out his knee on sideline.
And sure enough, Stafford left the game on the following series, replaced by veteran backup Daunte Culpepper. The Associated Press called it a twisted knee, and said Stafford's knee was iced on the sidelines after he'd left the game:
The Lions were celebrating a win over Washington that snapped a slide that matched the second-longest in league history a week earlier. This time, they were holding their breath after watching quarterback Matthew Stafford, the No. 1 draft pick, twist his right knee while being sacked in the fourth quarter.
The Lions had a third down on the Bears 6 when he was sacked by Adewale Ogunleye , forcing Detroit to kick a field goal that cut Chicago's lead to 34-24. Stafford had his leg wrapped and Daunte Culpepper replaced him on Detroit's next drive, a sobering sight for a team that has taken its share of blows over the years.
We’ll have more details as they emerge.
