According to ESPN, Matthew Stafford suffered a dislocation of his knee cap during the game on Sunday, which was popped back into place on the field. Now we wait to find out how serious the injury may be:
Stafford Suffers Dislocated Knee
A series of X-rays and MRIs will determine if Stafford damaged any cartilage around the knee cap, but sources said such an injury is not normally a season-ender. He will undergo more tests in Detroit.
One medical source even suggested that Stafford could play next week with a brace, but that will be determined by the pain and stability of the knee. He also could miss a week or longer, pending more comprehensive tests.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Stafford has suffered a similar injury to the same knee while playing on a slip-and-slide. Really:
Stafford had a similar injury to the same knee before his senior season in high school and missed a couple of games. He needed surgery after a horseplay incident in preseason training. A teammate tackled him while they were using a slip-and-slide to cool off after running.
He was noncommittal when asked if this injury was similar: “I don’t know. We’ll see. They’ve got to check it all out.”
And he gave the same answer when asked if he thought he could play Sunday against Pittsburgh: “I don’t know. We’ll see.”
