Back on October 6th Tito Ortiz tweeted that Mark Coleman had pulled out of their scheduled UFC 106 bout:
Mark Coleman Pulls Out of UFC 106 Bout With Tito Ortiz
Coleman, Coleman, Coleman, too bad he sissies out!!! Who’s next??? I’m kicking someone’s ass on Nov 21st!
At that time it didn’t appear that there were many marquee names available to fill the slot. Mike Rome of BloodyElbow floated Rashad Evans’ name but the short notice made that fight very unlikely.
Now however it appears that the UFC has pulled out a superstar replacement. Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports tweets:
Tito Ortiz gonna fight FORREST GRIFFIN at UFC 106 on Nov 21 in Vegas. Just confirmed with #UFC prez.
This is a rematch of a fight from UFC 59 in April of 2006. Ortiz won the first fight by split decision.
Kid Nate of BloodyElbow puts it in perspective:
This is brilliant save-the-day matchmaking by Joe Silva and Dana White. Forrest Griffin is nearly as big a draw as Tito Ortiz. Both fighters are in need of rehab -- Tito after a lackluster run in his last fights in the UFC and Forrest after a humiliating defeat at the hands of middleweight champ Anderson Silva.
