An enterprising and doubtlessly despondent Redskins fan went to the trouble to assemble this wondrous five-minute video that likens the Redskins loss to the Lions to the cinematic version of the Titanic sinking, complete with players’, coaches’ and team executives’ faces superimposed over those of key characters. Very well done. Four “hip-hip-hoorays” to the filmmakers. (It’s a significantly longer version of LSUFreek’s work from after the spectacular loss to the Lions.)

↵Now, I’m not one to deny a fanbase their right to complain. Redskins fans certainly have their place. Their owner and GM are contemptible. Their head coach rivals Norv Turner in terms of passivity on the sidelines. Their team has only been to the playoffs three times in the previous 16 seasons. ↵

↵However, the ‘Skins have defeated two of the three teams they were supposed to beat - the Rams and Buccaneers (albeit in marked unimpressive fashion) - but lost to the third (yes, I know it comes with the added opprobrium of being the Lions, a team that hadn’t won since 2007). And they lost to the Giants in the Meadowlands, which is a game the ‘Skins probably should lose. So the team is really only one game off where a neutral observer would reasonably expect them to be at this point in the season. Mike Florio aside, it’s not as though many outside the D.C. area had pegged the Redskins as Super Bowl contenders. Talk to Titans and Panthers fans about dashed expectations for this year before saying the ‘Skins are the NFL’s version of the Titanic.↵
