Going up against the 11th ranked rushing defense on his home field, Knowshon Moreno is expected to get his first NFL debut start this Sunday. With Correll Buckhalter nursing an ankle injury, the rookie should see plenty of carries.
Denver RB Moreno Expected to Start vs. Pats
The Pats are allowing 4.5 yards a carry, and Josh McDaniels has already given Moreno an average of 19 carries a game showing he has full confidence in the kid; the decision to start him in lieu of an injured Buckhalter even strengthens the notion.
The Pats are bound to put up a fight against the 4-0 Broncos, and if they do, you can expect Moreno to garner yards and scores out of the backfield as a runner and as a receiver to offset the various zone looks the Pats employ.
Moreno is enjoying a moderate season thus far: 60 carries for 249 yards and a TD as well as 4 catches for 33 yards and a single TD.
Those numbers should increase this week, and if they do, you can bank that going forward, McDaniels will reward Moreno with more carries and more looks.
The Georgia product is a tough back to bring down and is an excellent runner between the tackles despite not being all that fast-but he doesn’t really need it.
Look for the Broncos to go to Moreno early as a way to not only set the tone for the game, but also control the clock against an ever dangerous Patriots team.
