Cowboys 38, Seahawks 17: Romo, Hasselbeck Throw For Three Touchdowns Apiece

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) – Tony Romo threw three touchdowns and 10 different Cowboys had at least one catch, as Dallas rolled to a 38-17 victory over the Seahawks.Romo ended with 256 yards on 21-of-36 efficiency in Dallas’ (5-2) third straight win. Miles Austin led a balanced receiving corps with five catches for 61 yards and a score, while Sam Hurd and Roy Williams each caught a TD.

Marion Barber scored on the ground and ended with 53 yards on 14 carries, and Patrick Crayton returned a punt for a score for the second consecutive week.

The win moves the Cowboys into a first-place tie in the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles, who host the Cowboys for a Week 9 clash.

Matt Hasselbeck threw touchdown passes to Deion Branch and Justin Griffith, but had little help elsewhere for Seattle (2-5), which was coming off a bye after a disappointing 27-3 home loss to Arizona.

Julius Jones rushed for 56 yards on 15 carries against his former team, while Nate Burleson hauled in six passes for 89 yards in the loss.

Much like last week’s 37-21 win over the Falcons, the Cowboys turned in a terrific second half with a special teams TD providing the crushing blow.

Romo was a perfect 6-for-6 for 65 yards on the only extended drive of the third quarter. After two third-down conversions, Felix Jones caught a pass in the flat and raced 30 yards down the left sideline to the Seattle eight.

Marcus Trufant’s third pass interference penalty of the game moved the hosts even closer, and Austin caught a three-yard TD with 2:39 left in the third.

Seattle quickly punted, and Crayton fielded it at his own 18, worked his way through the kicking unit and added a stiff arm on punter Jon Ryan on his way to a 35-10 advantage.

Dallas’ Nick Folk booted a 40-yard field goal four minutes into the fourth to extend the margin even further.

Romo’s only blemish of the game — a fumble inside his own 10 — set up Griffith’s four-yard TD reception with 8:40 to go for the game’s final tally.

Olindo Mare capped Seattle’s 14-play, 69-yard opening possession with a 43- yard field goal near the seven-minute mark of the first.

On 3rd-and-2 from its own 30, Austin’s 15-yard grab keyed Dallas’ next drive, which ended with Hurd catching a drag and turning it into a 36-yard TD.

After Terence Newman’s big hit caused Justin Forsett to fumble, Austin drew a defensive pass interference penalty early in the second, setting Dallas up at the Seahawks’ two-yard line. From there, Barber pounded it in for a 14-3 lead.

Burleson came down with a 36-yard reception on 3rd-and-10 from the Seattle 39, and on another third-down play Hasselbeck rifled a pass down the middle of the field to Branch, who hauled in the 23-yard scoring strike.

Folk missed a 48-yard field goal attempt with 5:13 remaining in the half, but the Cowboys managed a TD on their next touch. Another defensive pass interference penalty and Austin’s 16-yard reception both moved the chains on third down to extend the drive, and Williams reached across the goal line for a seven-yard scoring grab just before intermission.

Julius Jones spent the first four years of his career with the Cowboys…The Seahawks, coming off a 14-yard rushing effort against the Cardinals, gained just 79 yards on the ground Sunday…David Hawthorne had two sacks for Seattle. Hasselbeck was sacked three times in the loss…The Seahawks host Detroit next week.
