Weekend Wake Up: All Sports’ Day

I present this commercial not because it’s a funny relic of a time when Sonny Bono was almost relevant, but because, for the first time ever, you can watch pretty much every sport in existence today. Bo probably didn’t know that day would ever come.

Inhistoric started the speculation, and SBNation put together the viewing guide, so all I really have to contribute is the nickname: All Sports’ Day. (It’s already All Saints’ Day; why not flip it?)

I also wanted to provide the best and worst matchups in the four major sports for the viewing public.

NFL

Best. As much as I would like to tout Broncos-Ravens or Giants-Eagles as the tilts featuring the two best teams today, it is hard not to see the Vikings-Packers game at Lambeau Field not only being fraught with emotion, but also being an exciting, pitched battle. Worst. The Rams visit Detroit today. Combined, those teams are 1-12, and have scored fewer points together than either has given up separately. Thankfully, a blackout will save Detroit the indignity of watching this one.

NBA

Best. The Hornets and Celtics tussle at 6 p.m. That just edges out a Blazers-Thunder game. Worst. Suns-Timberwolves, surely, though this matchup would have been much juicier if it were Ricky Rubio’s first faceoff against Steve Nash.

MLB

Best. Game 4 of the World Series. Worst. Game 4 of the World Series, announced by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

NHL

Best. Avalanche-Canucks, the only game on the docket featuring a team with ten wins and the only game taking place in Canada. Worst. Sharks-Hurricanes. The ‘Canes are just 2-7-3, and a massive mismatch for the talented San Jose squad, because this isn’t a playoff game.
