Sorry Nate Burleson, Guaranteed Victories Are Indeed Bulletin Board Material

Seahawks receiver Nate Burleson is enjoying one of his best statistical seasons, posting 45 catches for 562 yards and three scores through the first half of the season. However, not much good can be said about the Seahawks as a whole, as they stumble into the midway point at 3-5, two games behind the first place Cardinals. ↵↵Well, Burleson, perhaps noticing how well bold predictions worked for Kerry Rhodes and the Jets in their Week 2 victory over the rival Patriots, has issued a whopper of his own. He told a local sports show with without-a-doubt, categorical, take-it-to-the-bank certitude that the Seahawks will triumph Sunday in their pivotal division contest against Arizona.↵

↵↵⇥“Listen, I don’t want to give anybody any bulletin board material, but I do believe it was Herman Edwards [who said] we play to win the game. Period,” Burleson said, via SeattlePI.com. “So, we’re going on the road to play a football game. We’re gonna win. ↵⇥↵⇥“I don’t care what you say. People can print it in the paper, they can send it to the teams we’re playing. But they know just like we know, we’re going to win the game.”↵⇥

↵↵↵I’m pretty sure anytime you issue a guarantee of victory it instantly becomes bulletin board material for the team you have proclaimed is going to lose, whether or not you would like it to be. Just the way these things work, Nate. Especially when you say the opponent knows it as well as you do. That’s a nasty suggestion.↵

↵↵I will say that it’s good to see more significant contributors being the ones to issue the guarantees this year. It’s just not as interesting when marginal idiots like Anthony Smith do it. And if Burleson were going to pick a week to put himself on blast, even if he should be wrong, the media’s East Coast Bias is already too focused on the Colts and the Patriots to worry about anything going on out west.↵
