After last night’s horrible performance by Jay Cutler — some of the numbers are mind-boggling — Bears players did what you’d expect them to do: They publicly defended their quarterback. That’s fine. It’s locker room code, or whatever. But it’s the way in which they defended him that is … confusing.
Bears Defend Jay Cutler, Tell Media How Stupid They All Are
↵TE Greg Olson:
↵↵“We’re not really too concerned with what everybody writes about [our quarterback] when they don’t really know what’s going on out there. Stats are misleading. The blame falls on all of us.”
↵↵And Versatile Fast Guy Devin Hester:
↵↵“It’s not Jay’s fault. The media’s going to point fingers toward him; they don’t know what they’re talking about.” Two defensive players, linebacker Lance Briggs and defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, expressed similar sentiments.
↵↵Proactively bashing the media before they even write anything about the quarterback. Interesting technique. And I guess in some way, I could be considered “media,” so because I don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll let the video to the speaking for me.
↵
↵When you throw the ball into the chest of a defensive lineman in the redzone, that probably isn’t because of a QB-WR miscommunication. But hey, that one where Hester fell down — totally not Cutler’s fault. So there’s that. But then again, what do I know?
