↵For anyone who missed the announcement, Barnes handled himself with a great deal of class. He had positive things to say about all six of his finalists. But then in a move unlike any I’ve seen from a recruiting announcement, Barnes stepped over to a laptop and made a Skype call to North Carolina’s locker room where Roy Williams was waiting with his team for the good news.

↵Barnes had this to say about his decision:

↵“With these outstanding options, it was a difficult decision to make↵for both me and my family,” Barnes said at the podium. “I have grown↵ties to each of these schools. The school that I chose to be my alma↵mater had a balance of academics and basketball ... I just felt that↵not only was Coach Williams a great instructor of the game, but I also↵had a good relationship with the players.”

↵SN senior college basketball writer Mike DeCourcy writes that North Carolina “pulled one of the impressive come-from-behind recruiting surprises of recent years when Harrison Barnes, Sporting News’ No. 3 prospect among high school seniors, announced Friday he would be signing with the Tar Heels.”
