Saturday Night Features A Trio Of Firsts

Saturday night’s action featured three players that scored their first career goals: Phoenix’s David Schlemko, New Jersey’s Matt Halischuk, and Buffalo’s Tyler Ennis.

↵In Phoenix, Schlemko scored his first goal with 23.4 seconds left in the second period to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead. They eventually went on to win the game 3-2 over the Dallas Stars. Schlemko had this to say about the first goal:

"Little bit of a monkey off my back... I had a few good chances (to score) the first few games, so it definitely felt good to get that first one.”

↵Schlemko has played in in four games this season and has two points on the season, one goal and one assist. New Jersey’s Matt Halischuk scored his first goal of his career with 55 seconds left in the second period to give the Devils a 4-2 lead on their way to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Here is what Halischuk had to say about the goal:

↵↵“I was trying to go high,” Halischuk said. “He was coming across. “It’s pretty special. I didn’t know what to do there (to celebrate). It was exciting.”

↵↵Halischuk has played thirteen games this season for the conference leading Devils. Finally, Tyler Ennis scored his first goal of his career at the 14:50 mark of the second period to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead on their way to a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. Here is what Ennis had to say after the game:

↵↵“It was just an unbelievable feeling,” he said. “It sets in that you dreamt about playing in the NHL, and I scored my first goal. It was an indescribable feeling.”

↵↵Ennis scored his first goal in his first career game. He was called up from his AHL club before the team’s morning skate and landed in Philadelphia two hours before the game started.
