The Bulldogs didn’t win Tuesday night, but they might as well have. A four-point loss at Michigan State -- currently ranked No. 2 in the country -- is practically as good as a win for an inexperienced Gonzaga bunch. The Zags lost three of their best players (Josh Heytvelt, lottery pick Austin Daye, and Jeremy Pargo) from last year’s team and left only senior guard Matt Bouldin behind; it was reasonable to expect the Zags to regress this year.
Gonzaga Basketball Is Still Legit
↵But if a college hoops season is a series of tests, the Zags passed their first, leading at Michigan State for much of the night and missing two open three-pointers in the closing seconds, either of which would have given them a tie. Gonzaga isn’t a darling again this year. By the looks of it, they’re still a powerhouse.
