Someone Forgot the Meaning of ‘NFP’

... and if you don’t know what it means, it’s “Not For Print.” It’s unfortunate that someone forgot the meaning, because they’ll probably be a little red-faced this morning when they see this made it into the online version of their story:↵

↵↵

↵↵That was a note likely left for an editor so they knew the writer had checked the spelling of Domonic Brown. Evidently the all caps usage plus an asterisk at each end did not signal it was time to remove that line when it went to be posted online.↵

↵↵Out of a morbid curiosity, I’m now left to wonder if this thing also went in the print edition this way. I’ve worked at a small paper before, and I know that often the text for online is ripped straight from an on-screen print edition and posted. Perhaps more amazing is the fact that Big League Stew first noted this error at 11:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. As of this writing early on Thursday, the note is still included in the online edition. That fact makes me believe this error probably made it into print, too.↵

↵↵Anyone with print experience knows that dummy headlines and things of that nature are not uncommon, but mistakes like this are also usually the cautionary tale that you shouldn’t even bother with anything other than “xxxxxxxx” in an empty space. That stands out. You’ll remember to change that. If word gets back to Brown, an up-and-comer in the Phillies system, I imagine it’ll be a little bit awkward the next time the Bucks Local News tries to get a quote.↵

↵↵Anyone in the area able to pick up a copy of the paper and tell me if this thing is in the print edition as well?↵
