Football Outsiders’s Curse of 370 posits that running backs who rush more than 370 times in a season suffer a serious downgrade in production the following season. Michael Turner was this season’s prime Curse of 370 suspect, and thus far, the results are, well, kind of inconclusive.
Is Michael Turner Disproving The Curse Of 370?
↵Turner just scored a touchdown vs. the Saints, which gives him eight rushing touchdowns on the season. Last year, he had 17. Coming into Week 8, Turner has rushed 118 times for 403 yards; last year, he rushed 376 times for 1699 yards.
↵In other words, Turner is not on pace for last year’s production in carries or yardage, but he’s just barely off the pace in the touchdown column, and it’s not as though his per-yard rushing average has taken a huge hit. And Turner hasn’t suffered any sort of serious injury, a notorious Curse of 370 plague. So, for now, inconclusive. Which, compared with the disastrous history of 370 carry backs, is not so inconclusive at all.
