Boise State IPO Is Going Well; Their Ex-Coach ... Not So Much

Boise State’s sale of “shares” of their football program is going well, with the university reporting sales of 1600 shares at $100 a piece. You don’t actually get anything besides a certificate of ownership for your contribution to the Boise State athletic program, but if you are big into shiny pieces of paper with certificates on them, you’ll love giving their program money you’ll never see back.

↵Meanwhile, Boise State’s former coach is inspiring fundraising drives at other schools, too. Colorado may or may not have enough money to buy Dan Hawkins out after a 3-8 season, but he’s likely gone anyway due to a dismal 13-24 showing in four seasons in Boulder. They could play without a coach and do better if they want to save money. It’s happened before at Colorado:

↵↵His 33.3 winning percentage is better than the powder-blue years produced a generation ago by Chuck Fairbanks, but is worse than when the Buffaloes played football without a coach from 1890-93.

↵↵So, yeah. They’re ready to move on, head coach or not.
