The 1-8 Lions and the 1-8 Browns kick off in Detroit at 1:00. While the rest of us roll our eyes, if you’re a Lions or Browns fan, this is perhaps your last chance this season to see your team in a fair fight. It’s the highlight of the season. (By the way, check out our live game threads at Dawgs By Nature and Pride Of Detroit.)
Lions-Browns, As Simulated In Madden 10
↵For those of you who don’t want to actually watch the game, but are morbidly curious to learn the results, I just simulated the game on Madden 10.
↵The result? The Browns beat the Lions at home, 26-21. Both quarterbacks look pretty mediocre, especially Matt Stafford, who throws a crucial pick-six. With 1:21 left in the game, the Lions attempt an onside kick. Cleveland actually fumbles the recovery, but manage to fall on the ball. After burning all three of their timeouts, the Lions force a punt and get the ball at their own 20. Stafford and Calvin Johnson work their way to the Browns’ 28 before the Lions’ offensive line implode and Stafford is sacked. He rushes back to the line, spikes the ball, and then throws the ball 15 yards away from the nearest receiver to end the game.
↵So that’s that. It actually wasn’t a miserable game, all told, and it came down to the final play. I doubt we’ll be able to say that about, say, Saints-Buccaneers.
