Flyers’ center Daniel Briere has been suspended for two games for his hit on Scott Hannan in Monday night’s loss to the Avalanche, reports Darren Dreger via Twitter.

↵Briere left his feet, led with his elbow and stick, and hit an unsuspecting Hannan in the head. He was not penalized for the hit, as it appeared that no official witnessed the incident. Hannan (who had scored immediately before Briere drilled him) was forced to leave the ice and did not return. Hannan did not skate in practice today, however the Avalanche are hopeful that he will be ready to go on Wednesday night.
↵The hit was despicable, and the suspension deserved. With Laraque being suspended on Monday, I wonder if the NHL is starting to get it? Might they begin to police dirty play appropriately? Only time will tell, but these two suspensions are steps in the right direction.
