From ESPN’s Joe Schad:
Florida’s Brandon Spikes Suspends Himself For Entire Vanderbilt Game
↵
↵Florida LB Brandon Spikes will sit out the entire Vanderbilt game in order to avoid being a distraction.
↵
↵It’s a little late for Spikes to avoid being a distraction. After all, he’s been the talk of the college football landscape ever since Urban Meyer slapped him with a one-whole-half suspension, a pretty silly decision that drew the ire of many a hot-blooded sports columnist. (And many a reasonable one, too.)
↵Now, though, Florida -- or Brandon Spikes, though it’s likely this move originated from some higher-up, including Meyer himself -- is doing both the right and easy thing: Suspending Spikes for an entire game. Why this didn’t happen in the first place, given that Florida’s defense will likely maim Vanderbilt with Spikes or without, continues to mystify.
