I don’t feel a whole lot of pity for fans of not one or two but three franchises that have all won titles in recent years, but still, you know the running back situation in New England is bad when you’re reading sentences like this:
Question: How Desperate Are Patriots Fans For A Running Back? Answer: They’re Talking Edgerrin James
↵↵I am not jumping for joy at having to pull a 31 year old back to our team in the middle of the season. In fact, I’m hurling over the prospect. But what’s a team to do? As recently as this Monday, the Patriots have worked out 3 backs, reports Chris Gasper of the Boston Globe. Not one of these 3 have the career stats Edge has, nor the experience.
↵Is Edge washed up? Who knows. He’s not a long term solution, but could he provide much needed depth for a faltering running game?
↵↵I suppose it’s not the worst idea in the world, if only because James would come cheap, but still, anyone who’s seen Edge play recently knows he’s not just washed up. He’s what happens when you forget and leave your washed-up clothing in the washer for a day or two. He’s so washed-up he smells vaguely of mildew. Surely there are better options elsewhere.
