Joe Girardi Wants to Play Scoreboard With The Yankees’ Title Count

The Yankees positively shocked the world by snapping their torturously long nine-year title drought Wednesday, capturing that illustrious 27th World Series crown. Naturally, we’re all thrilled for the long-beleaguered fans of the Bronx Bombers, who have suffered so tirelessly with such low-grade talent on their roster.↵↵But what’s a dominant Yankees team without ample measures of braggadocio? No Evil Empire worth its salt doesn’t go around parading its hegemony for all the world to see. Therefore, it’s fitting that skipper Joe Girardi hinted on his WFAN radio show that he is likely to change his uniform number next year from 27 to 28, to symbolize the 28th world championship he’s looking to deliver in 2010.↵

↵↵Not that it’s inconsistent with Girardi’s tactics, either. He asked for the number 27 when taking the Yankees job prior to the 2008 season to mark the title tally he would eventually notch for New York. Naturally, his job was seemingly in jeopardy after his first season, in which he allowed the unthinkable to happen: The Yankees did miss the postseason last year, remember?↵

↵↵But now grand old times have returned to the Big Apple, meaning there’s talk of extending Girardi past 2010 and hope for more uniform changes to come.↵
