Peyton Manning Owns The Aughts

We’re nearing the end of this millennium’s first decade -- it’s sort of amazing, if you think about it, which I try not to do for fear that I’ll BLOW MY OWN MIND, MAN -- which means it’s time to take stock of the past ten years. On the Internet, whether in sports or in music, this means you better like lists, because that’s all any blog is running for the next two months. Get used to it.

↵In professional football, though, we can take stock of one fact much more simply: Peyton Manning has completely owned this decade. Today, Manning cemented that fact, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw for 40,000 yards in any decade. Before the season’s out, he could also become the first player to throw for 300 touchdowns in a decade. Translation: While you were discovering blogs and using Facebook and watching “The Sopranos” and listening to The Strokes on your big white iPod, Peyton Manning was being really, really good at football, pretty much all the time. You stopped and noticed, didn’t you?
