Weekend Wake Up: Zenyatta Beats the Boys, Fedor Roars, No More Iverson?

⇥⇥⇥⇥⇥⇥

The Most Horse. What hasn’t Zenyatta done? The five-year-old filly came from behind and blew away the field down the stretch in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, running her record to 14-0 and becoming the first female to ever win the event. She’s in the debate for Horse of the Year with fellow phenomenal filly Rachel Alexandra. And though her owners have hinted at her being retired next year, it seems like Zenyatta could be the dominant horse of her generation without ever running in a Triple Crown race. That’s one classy lady.

Fedor the Great. Sure, CBS screwed up by not showing Strikeforce’s Saturday night fights live on the West Coast. But the headliner of the shindig, Fedor Emelianenko, did nothing of the sort, scoring a TKO over Brett Rogers in the second round and stealing the spotlight from a bland slate of late-evening college football. That’s a win for MMA.

Bye-bye, AI? Allen Iverson may be on leave from the Memphis Grizzlies for “personal business” according to the team, but other sources seem to have surmised otherwise. Is it the end of Iverson? Time will tell. I still think he’s a contributing piece for a contender at the end of this season. But this is two ugly situations in less than a year for AI, and if nothing else, it’s given his legacy a black eye.
