The NHLPA has announced today that interim ombudsman Buzz Hargrove has resigned his position. Hargrove was a key member of the group that led the NHLPA to firing then executive director Paul Kelly. Hargrove has been the seventh member of the NHLPA to step down since a new review committee has been created. This from CBC Sports:
NHLPA Ombudsman Buzz Hargrove Resigns Position
CBCSports.ca's Tim Wharnsby wrote recently that the six men resigned because they felt that their roles were extremely restricted by a newly created review committee, which consists of Chris Chelios, Rob Blake, Nicklas Lidstrom and Mark Recchi.
The review committee was approved by the player executive three weeks ago to look into firing of former executive director Paul Kelly a couple months ago, along with the internal operations of the NHLPA office.
What the NHLPA needs to do is just start fresh and rid itself from the members that created the mess the union is currently facing. The resignation of Hargrove is another step in that direction.
