Tommy West beat him to the honor of first, but the firing of David Elson at Western Kentucky takes the lead for most baffling early firing in college football. If you were not aware of Western Kentucky having a football team, it is not without reason: Western Kentucky played their first fully eligible season as a Football Bowl Subdivision team this year, and got to the lofty level under the direction of Elson, the only football coach the program has ever known as a Division One team.
Cold-Blooded: Western Kentucky Fires Coach For Going Winless In First Season As D-1 Program
↵They also lost a hell of a pitchman, too.

↵Unless this is a non-football related issue, Western Kentucky just fired a guy for going winless with what should be by definition the worst program in major college football because they literally just started the program as a D-1 team. If it had nothing to do with Elson doing something insane like stealing office supplies or moonlighting as a door-to-door shrimp salesman on the side, the WKU deserves whatever fresh football hell they get for prematurely firing the guy who got them to the big leagues in the first place after one admittedly terrible season. In the meantime, Elson can make a killing doing local commercials.
