Michigan AD Bill Martin: I’m Kind Of A Big Deal

Michigan athletic director Bill Martin is our next apology candidate this evening. What does Martin want to apologize for? This:

↵↵On separate occasions, two university employees working security on the Regents Guest level of the Michigan Stadium press box did not allow Martin, who was unaware of a new security process, to enter the area. Martin, on each occasion was without the proper credential and made physical contact with the employees to gain entrance. [...]

↵Turner said Martin put his right hand on her left shoulder and said, “Honey, I am the athletic director.” She said he then pushed her on the left just hard enough to guide her out of the way. Turner did not resist in any way, she said in the report.

↵↵Great line, Bill. “Listen, sweetheart, why don’t you let the men take it from here, huh? Maybe go fetch the boys a coupla cold ones and a brat or two? Huh? And when you’re done with that, maybe you could knit me something useful? What do you say there, cupcake?” Oof.

↵The security personnel working the gate have elected not to press charges, and Martin has already apologized for the misunderstanding, and yeah, you know, maybe his quote was less condescending in real life than its written depiction makes it sound. If all of these things are true, we can still make fun of Bill Martin, because dude: If you’re the athletic director, you should probably know your football stadium’s security protocol. Just a thought, honey.
