Week 14 Start/Sit: Robert Meachem Is Hot Edition
Robert Meachem, WR NO - He burned the Redskins last week when he stripped Kareem Moore of his interception and took it to the house with seconds left in the first half. But as a wide receiver, he has become a top target for Drew Brees. He has six touchdowns in the last five games, and when he gets his hands on the ball, he is a capable of adding huge chunks of yardage to his stats.
Jason Campbell, QB WAS - It has been a long time since I picked a Redskin to recommend as a starter, and I risk being a week late. Against the Saints last week, he threw for 367 yards and 3 touchdowns. He put the ball in the air 42 times, completing 30 passes. More importantly, he got in sync with Devin Thomas, the second year wide receiver that has been brimming with potential but had yet to put it together in a game. This week he gets a pretty mediocre pass defense in Oakland. They are a worse run defense, but it doesn’t matter. The Redskins are officially a pass-first and second team.
Fred Jackson, RB BUF - No matter the turmoil in Buffalo, you can always seem to count on Fred Jackson to run his heart out. The Bills say he will be their feature back this week and they get the Chiefs, who are allowing 143 rushing yards per game this season.
Kevin Boss, TE NYG - Boss loves playing the Eagles. This season he already had a decent outing against them, going for 70 yards a touchdown. Philadelphia is horrible against tight ends, allowing seven different ones to score on them this season.
Tennessee Titans, DEF - While they have struggled all season, they have tightened up since they started their 5-1 streak. This week they get the Rams, who consist entirely of Steven Jackson. Tennessee will look to make Kyle Boller beat them through the air and that ain’t happening. Behind a stellar ground game and a stingy run defense, the Titans will dominate this game.
Sit
Matt Hasselbeck, QB SEA - He is nursing a sore body this week in practice and is scheduled to start against Houston, but he should not be starting for your fantasy team in the playoffs. The Texans have only allowed one quarterback to throw for more than 250 yards in their house this season (Mark Sanchez.) Call it a hunch, but I bet he doesn’t finish this game.
Kevin Smith, RB DET - I hate this since I need him for my own playoffs, but Smith is a sit recommendation for sure against the Ravens. The Lions are trotting out Daunte Culpepper this week and Baltimore will most likely look to bottle up Smith and force Culpepper into mistakes.
Bernard Berrian, WR MIN - At your draft this year, did you have Berrian circled as a guy who was going to make out with the addition of Bret Favre? I did. Thankfully somebody else felt stronger about it and drafted him before I could. Berrian simply has not developed anything with Favre this season like Harvin and Rice have. The Bengals have only given up six passing touchdowns all season to wide receivers so don’t expect Bernard Berrian to all of a sudden come in and rock them at all.
Fred Davis, TE WAS - I had to balance out my Jason Campbell “Start” recommendation with this. I read that Oakland has not allowed a single touchdown this season to a tight end. I do see Campbell getting it done through the air, but it sounds like one guy who will get his fair share of attention from the Raider defense will be Fred Davis.
Cincinnati Bengals, DEF - In many fantasy leagues (including mine), this defensive unit is tops. But this week they go indoors and take on a Vikings squad that is upset after their loss last week. And they are good enough to do something about it. The Bengals defense will be without one of their best run defenders--Domata Peko--and will be chasing down Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice all day.
