December 12, 2009 – Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) – Eric Bledsoe’s 23 points, along with Patrick Patterson’s 19 points and 11 rebounds, paced fourth-ranked Kentucky to a 90-73 victory over Indiana at Assembly Hall.DeMarcus Cousins donated 14 points and hauled in eight rebounds, while freshman sensation John Wall contributed 11 points with eight assists and six rebounds for the Wildcats (10-0), who rode an all-around wave in the second half to a comfortable victory over a shaky start.
No. 4 Kentucky 90, Indiana 73: Bledsoe, Not Wall, Leads The Way
Maurice Creek led all scorers with 31 points, including five three-pointers, and was the only Hoosier in double figures. Indiana (4-5) struggled to find the same solid shooting touch in the second half, succumbing to Kentucky’s relentless ball pressure.
Indiana got off to a sizzling start at the game’s outset, pushing out to a 12-4 edge on Creek’s jumper just over three minutes in. Kentucky rallied from a pair of early eight-point deficits, taking a 21-19 advantage on Bledsoe’s pull-up jumper with under 10 minutes on the clock.
A 24-23 lead quickly jumped to 36-27 with a 12-4 burst capped by Wall’s fast break slam with a little under five minutes on the clock. Indiana regained its aggressiveness and shooting touch late in the opening half, cutting the deficit to 42-41 by the break.
Creek led all scorers with 17 points as Indiana made 63 percent of its shots. Kentucky shot just under 57 percent from the floor, and kept the lead thanks to seven offensive rebounds and a 13-2 edge on the second-chance points.
A tight game turned into a comfortable lead for the visitors thanks to a big spurt and Indiana scoring drought early in the second half. The Hoosiers went nearly six minutes without a point, as the Wildcats reeled off 13 consecutive points capped by a Bledsoe layup to take a 65-48 advantage.
The Hoosiers never recovered as Kentucky kept the pressure on and made enough shots to maintain the double-digit advantage.
The Wildcats shot 52.2 percent from the floor and owned the glass, holding a 44-22 rebounding…Kentucky leads the all-time series, 30-23…The Wildcats played their first true road game of the season.
