Mississippi State 72, UCLA 54: More Woe For Howland’s Bruins

December 12 – Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) – Ravern Johnson scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a 72-54 win over the UCLA Bruins in a non-conference matchup at the Honda Center as part of the John R. Wooden Classic.

The Bulldogs (7-2) also received a big performance from Jarvis Varnado who added 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks in the victory.

The Bruins (2-6) were paced by Michael Roll who tallied 17 points and six rebounds in the loss. Malcolm Lee also added 16 points for UCLA.

MSU took control of the contest in the first half, shooting 53.1 percent from the floor, to take a 40-19 lead at the break.

The Bulldogs put the game away in the second stanza, knocking down 11-of-27 shots from the field, en route to an 18-point victory.

Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in this contest, as MSU outscored the Bruins 27-12 from long-distance.
