There’s a ton of Heisman coverage on the Sporting News main page right now. This is a little less serious. It was inevitable that a Ndamukong Suh tribute would be recorded; his last name’s too perfect for that opportunity to be wasted. What’s surprising is how good this is. (Video via The Big Lead.)
Heisman Hysteria: Suh Wins Off the Field, Gerhart Carries Blogs, Ingram Projected to Win
Suh, when not inspiring modestly amusing music (or ), is also looking out for the general welfare. He told a teammate whose father works for the FBI of a death threat a Dallas high schooler made towards another on his Facebook fan page, and local authorities were able to talk to the student before he got to school the next day. Charges were not filed, but of all the holds Suh has drawn this year, that might be the best.
But don’t think those off-field exploits bolster Suh’s chances -- votes have already been cast, and both a coterie of bloggers and a traditionally accurate projection of actual voters have other players running away with the hardware, despite him capturing the public’s first place vote.
Stanford’s Toby Gerhart won the Sports Blog Heisman by a single point over Suh, despite garnering fewer first-place votes. This would probably be a good time to get my apology out: I was asked to vote, got caught up this week, and failed to get what would have been a Suh-Mark Ingram-Gerhart ballot emailed. So my lost vote cost Suh the Sports Blog Heisman. Don’t hurt me, House of Spears.
As for what will happen tonight, Stiff Arm Trophy is projecting a first-ever win for the elephant in the room. Their numbers have Ingram ahead among voters who have revealed their ballots, and project that he will extend that lead when all is said and done, finishing ahead of Gerhart and Suh in that order.
And if you don’t care about the Heisman, for whatever reason, you might still want to flip on ESPN around 9 p.m. Eastern. There’s a movie on that might be pretty good.
