And you wonder why people love the Saints? Leading by just 3, on the road, against a suprisingly plucky Falcons team, the Saints were lined up for a field goal that would have forced the Falcons--and journeyman QB Chris Redman--to drive the length of the field and score a touchdown to win.
The Saints: Awesome, Possibly Idiotic
↵AND THEY FAKED THE FIELD GOAL. They failed to get the first down, of course, and Atlanta’s now driving to tie or win. Strategically sound? Absolutely not. Actually really stupid, when you think about it? Maybe. But see, this is why people love the Saints.
↵They’re just letting it ride and playing with house money, with Drew Brees as the posterchild for their whole “WE HAVE FUN HERE” ethos. That they play in the craziest city in America only makes it better. Can a team like that go undefeated and win a Super Bowl? Ehhh... Hopefully? It’d certainly be an awesome story.
↵For now, Atlanta’s driving and has a chance to tie with a field goal. Again, now they don’t need a TD. Why? Because the Saints are awesome.
↵UPDATE: Are the Saints flying too close to the sun? Not today! The Falcons’ drive sputtered and New Orleans wins it. For at least another week, the ride continues and the Saints are unbeaten.
