Brandon Marshall Sets NFL Record With 21 Receptions Against Colts

The past 20 months for Brandon Marshall: he cut tendons in his arm when he fell into his television after slipping on a McDonald’s wrapper; caught 18 passes in one game in 2008; underwent hip surgery; infamously refused to practice this summer and was subsequently suspended for the final two preseason games; and then today, he recorded 21 receptions in one game. He’s been busy.

↵Trailing during the entire game on Sunday in Indianapolis, Denver was forced to throw. A lot. And since Kyle Orton’s “Plan B” is Jabar Gaffney, Orton wisely just kept tossing it Brandon Marshall’s way. By the time the clock read all zeros, Marshall had amassed a record-setting 21 receptions, 200 yards and two touchdowns.

↵↵“I went to my receiving coach (Adam Gase) before the game and I told him, ‘I think this is going to be the best game I’ve ever played.’ Just because of the environment, the situation of playing the Colts,” Marshall said. “I believe big players step up in big games, and this was a big game for us.”

↵↵To put this perspective: Peyton Manning completed just 20 passes on the day. You can watch video of Marshall’s catch-y goodness thanks to NFL.com’s video page.
